What 2G, 3G and 6G Mean for Welder Recruitment

Welder position labels need context. Check the process, material, qualification scope and employer test before selecting candidates.

Position labels such as 2G, 3G and 6G often appear in recruitment messages. They can help describe experience, but they are not a complete job specification or a guarantee that a welder is qualified for every task. Employers should interpret them with their technical team and the applicable standard. A label is only the starting point Ask what process, material and joint the candidate used. Establish whether the label describes a qualification test, production experience or simply the type of work the person hopes to obtain. These are different kinds of information and should be recorded separately. Check the underlying document Where a qualification is required, inspect the actual record and confirm its scope, validity and relevance. Do not select someone solely because “6G” appears in a social-media profile. The employer’s welding specialist should determine whether the evidence covers the work being offered. Assess the proposed job Explain whether the vacancy involves pipe, plate, workshop production or site work. Give the assessor the real specification. A recruitment test should answer whether the candidate can meet that requirement under controlled conditions, rather than award a general ranking based on a position label. Avoid a misleading hierarchy A worker with a more demanding past test may still lack recent experience with your material or process. Conversely, an experienced production welder may fit a narrowly defined role well. Compare evidence against the job instead of using labels as a shortcut.
