Warehouse Helper or Storekeeper: Which Role Do You Need?

Compare warehouse helper and storekeeper duties before hiring. A clear division of physical handling, stock records and accountability improves screening.

Warehouse helper and storekeeper are sometimes used as interchangeable job titles. That creates problems when a recruit arrives expecting physical support work but is asked to control stock records. Employers sourcing Bangladeshi warehouse staff should separate these responsibilities at the start. Where a warehouse helper fits A helper may unload goods, sort cartons, prepare orders, pack products and keep handling areas organised. The brief should explain the products, lifting arrangements, shift pattern and supervision. State whether handheld scanners are used and whether reading product codes is essential. Where a storekeeper fits A storekeeper may check receipts against documents, assign storage locations, maintain stock records, issue materials and investigate differences. The level of responsibility varies. A small maintenance store and a large distribution centre should not use the same screening checklist simply because the title matches. Test the work you actually require For a helper, use a safe sample task involving item identification, counting and packing instructions. For a storekeeper, present a small receiving discrepancy: ten units are listed, but only nine arrive. Ask how the candidate would record and report it. If software is essential, check the specific tasks rather than asking only whether the person “knows computers.” Avoid hidden extra roles Driving, forklift operation, purchasing and cash collection require separate assessment. Adding these duties after selection can undermine the agreed offer. List essential tasks and identify which skills can be taught after joining. An example brief “Warehouse helper for packaged household products; picking, packing and loading support; scanner training provided; no independent forklift operation.” This tells a recruiter more than “experienced warehouse worker required.” Rapidocs can use that detail to focus sourcing and arrange interviews around the actual role.
