Onboarding Bangladeshi Workers: A First-Week Employer Plan

Plan a clear first week for Bangladeshi recruits with arrival information, understandable induction, supervised tasks and a named contact.

Recruitment does not end when a worker arrives. The first week determines whether the person understands the job, can ask for help and knows how the workplace operates. Employers hiring Bangladeshi workers should prepare onboarding before confirming the joining arrangements. Before the first shift Give the worker practical information about arrival, accommodation if provided, transport and the person to contact. Confirm the reporting time and required documents through an agreed channel. Avoid collecting unnecessary personal information in informal group messages. Explain the workplace Introduce the supervisor and show the relevant work areas, facilities and emergency arrangements. Use language and demonstrations the worker can understand. Ask them to explain key instructions back in their own words rather than assuming a signature proves understanding. Start with supervised tasks Match initial duties to the skills assessed during recruitment. Demonstrate unfamiliar equipment and procedures, then observe performance under appropriate supervision. Previous GCC employment does not remove the need for induction at the new site. Review the offer in practice Check that hours, duties and benefits match the agreed terms. Resolve practical questions early, including transport or accommodation issues where these form part of the offer. The worker should know how to raise a concern without guessing which colleague has authority. End the week with a short review Discuss what is clear, what needs more training and what the next week will involve. Record actions and responsibility.
