Forklift Operator Recruitment: A Practical Employer Checklist
Hiring forklift operators from Bangladesh or the GCC? Define truck types, loads, practical assessments and site induction before selecting candidates.

A forklift operator who performs well in one warehouse may need further training in another. Truck type, aisle layout, load characteristics and pedestrian traffic all change the job. For employers recruiting Bangladeshi forklift operators from the UAE or Bangladesh, the hiring brief should describe those conditions before CVs are shortlisted.
Start with the actual truck
State whether the position involves counterbalance trucks, reach trucks or another machine. Include attachments, typical pallet dimensions, approximate load ranges and indoor or outdoor work. Ask candidates which machines they have personally operated, rather than accepting “forklift experience” as a complete answer.
Check evidence in context
Review training records, employment dates and recent operating experience. A certificate can support screening, but it does not replace an assessment or establish automatic permission to operate in another country. Confirm destination requirements with the appropriate local adviser or authority.
Use a controlled practical assessment
Have a competent assessor plan a safe test. Useful observations include pre-use checks, awareness of pedestrians, load stability, clear visibility and the response to an unsafe pallet. Record what the candidate does and where further training is needed. Do not run a live assessment in an uncontrolled loading area.
Plan the first working week
Explain traffic routes, reporting procedures and site-specific restrictions before independent work begins. An experienced recruit still needs to understand the employer’s particular workplace. The HSE reference below distinguishes basic, job-specific and familiarisation training, which is a useful framework for planning induction.
What to send Rapidocs
Send the equipment list, shift pattern, work location, assessment arrangements and full employment terms. A precise brief makes the shortlist easier to evaluate and prevents avoidable mismatches.
