Delivery Van Driver Interviews: Questions Beyond the Licence

Assess delivery van drivers through route scenarios, proof of delivery, vehicle checks and customer communication alongside destination licence requirements.

A driving licence is one part of delivery van driver recruitment. A driver also handles goods, follows delivery instructions and represents the employer at the customer’s door. When recruiting Bangladeshi drivers with GCC experience, examine these daily responsibilities separately. Ask about a real delivery day Invite the candidate to describe a previous route from vehicle collection to the final return. Which documents were checked? How were failed deliveries recorded? Who was contacted when an address was wrong? Specific answers reveal more than a general claim of many years behind the wheel. Use a delay scenario Give a practical situation: a road is closed and the next delivery has a fixed time window. Look for safe stopping, communication with dispatch and an authorised route adjustment. Avoid rewarding an answer based on speeding or using a phone while driving. Discuss goods and records Explain whether the role involves parcels, food, building materials or another product. Ask about checking quantities, securing loads and reporting damage. Where cash collection or a delivery app is involved, assess those tasks explicitly and explain the employer’s controls. Verify driving eligibility locally A UAE or other GCC licence does not, by itself, prove permission to drive for an employer in Europe. Check the candidate’s licence category and the destination’s recognition, exchange, training and professional-use requirements before promising a start date. Do not confuse ordinary driving experience with legal eligibility. Make the offer accurate State who loads the vehicle, the expected service area, work schedule, overtime arrangement and any customer-language requirement. Those details allow candidates to make an informed choice. They also let Rapidocs screen for the delivery operation you run, rather than simply searching for anyone with a licence.
