Cold Storage Warehouse Recruitment: Questions to Settle First

Planning cold storage recruitment? Explain temperature zones, protective equipment, breaks, handling duties and training before shortlisting warehouse workers.

A general warehouse job description is not enough for cold storage recruitment. Candidates need to understand the environment before accepting an offer, while employers need to assess relevant experience without making assumptions about nationality or previous country of work. Describe the environment plainly State the temperature zones involved and whether workers move between them. Explain the tasks, shift lengths and arrangements for suitable clothing, breaks and supervision. Include wet floors, condensation or other conditions identified by the site assessment. Avoid the vague phrase “normal warehouse duties” where the environment is specialised. Identify the handling tasks Will the recruit pick individual items, move sealed cartons or support pallet handling? Are scanners used with gloves? Is there work near powered equipment? These questions determine which previous experience is relevant and what training is needed. Make screening practical Ask candidates to explain the cold storage settings they have worked in and the procedures they followed. Check understanding of reporting damaged clothing, product issues or unsafe conditions. A recruiter should not make medical fitness judgements; any required occupational-health assessment belongs with appropriately qualified professionals under applicable rules. Plan induction around the site Walk new starters through routes, emergency arrangements and the process for getting assistance. Demonstrate the equipment and verify understanding. An experienced worker may still be unfamiliar with your temperature-controlled doors, alarms or stock rotation system. Set expectations before travel The offer and interview should describe the same conditions. If the job changes materially during recruitment, discuss the change before the worker commits to joining.
