Candidate Introduction Videos: What Employers Can Learn

Use short candidate videos to understand work history and communication while keeping technical assessment and final selection evidence separate.

Short introduction videos can help employers prepare for interviews with overseas candidates. They are most useful when workers explain their own duties in simple language. A polished performance should not be mistaken for proof of trade competence. Ask for relevant content A useful video states the candidate’s profession, recent experience, main duties and current availability. Encourage accurate examples rather than a long company-style speech. There is no need to include passport numbers, private family information or unrelated personal details. Listen for substance Does the worker explain what they personally did? Can they name relevant equipment or responsibilities? Note questions for the interview. Do not assume that a script, accent or editing quality establishes how the person will perform in the workplace. Use the format fairly Some capable workers are uncomfortable recording themselves. Others may have received substantial help preparing a script. Compare videos with care and give candidates an appropriate chance to clarify their experience during an interview. Protect the purpose Explain who will review the video and use appropriate consent and sharing arrangements. A recruitment introduction should not automatically become public promotional content. Keep the material limited to what the hiring process needs. Follow with assessment For technical roles, use an employer-led skills assessment where needed. For communication, use real job scenarios rather than judging presentation style alone. Rapidocs can coordinate candidate introductions as part of an agreed screening process, with the employer making final selection on relevant evidence.
